This is a rare and ancient hat worn by the chief of a secret society belonging to the Lega ethnic group in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Description

These hats hold great significance among the Lega people, and they are primarily worn by members of the Bwami secret society, which is responsible for governing most aspects of Lega life.

The hat is made of raffia derived from wood and decorated with brown maseza pods arranged in concentric circles around the conical shape and cowry .
